following reductions of Salary :
Colonial Sec. - £1,800 to £1,500 Chief Justice . £3,000 to £2,000 Attorney Genl - £1,500 to £1,000
I am desired to
acquaint you that Dr.
Morrison, the Colonial
Surgeon, gave up his practice in order to
accept his present Appointment at Hong Kong, and that Lord Grey apprehends
therefore that he could
not be deprived of his
office without ample
compensation ; and on
this ground, His Lordship
proposes rather to adopt the Governor's suggestion of awaiting the occurrence of a
vacancy, and to
instruct him that he is
then to dispense with
the office of Colonial Surgeon
and try the plan of entrusting the duties to
one of the Staff Asst. Surgeons on an allowance of £200
